A disappointing end to an otherwise excellent season sees Warthfold anxiously awaiting the outcome of their title rivals' 2 remaining games: away to Rossendale and Unsworth within the next week, needing to gain maximum points to overhaul Warth at the top!
A poor first half saw Warth 3 down in 30 minutes after some shoddy defending and an overall lacklustre performance, with Breezy and Danny Lev the only reason it wasn't a more emphatic scoreline.
With two key players missing, two carrying noticeable knocks and two more off the pitch with injury after only 20 minutes (Captain for the day, Olly, and Breezy) it was always going to be a tough ask against a Rossy team who can mix it with the best on their day. They beat Elton Wildcats 5-2 only 6 weeks-or-so ago and they played well enough here to earn their result, but if Warth had been at the same level as any other game they've played in this season (apart from the Prestwich 1/4 final 1st leg!) it would have been a different outcome.
The 2nd half was much better with more endeavour and better passing football. But some wayward finishing, an excellent Rossy keeper and the woodwork (3 times) denied Warth a way back into the game at any point up to the 90th minute. Then they scored two in quick succession, Nurney rounding the keeper for the 1st and Stephens finishing firmly high into into the net from just inside the box to cap off two of the better individual performances on the day.
...and now we wait!
