Welling went down 2-3 at home to Pheonix Sports on the final game of what has been a fantastic season. Whilst very direct and never really playing much football full credit must go to Pheonix who are the only side to have beaten the Wings this season and have in fact completed the double over the Champions. However it should be considered that Welling were far from full strength. Pheonix took the lead with a stunning 25 yard shot into the top corner midway through the first half and the score remained 1-0 at halft time. The Wings equalised when Jack Kensington headed in a Jack Stevens free kick but two further goals by Pheonix put the game out of reach for Welling. A late consolation goal from Richard Jimoh made the final score 3-2 to Pheonix. Pheonix had also struck the bar during the first half and Welling's Richard Jimoh had struck the post twice, once in each half. Welling took a while to get going in this game but during the second half particularly played some good passing and possession football at times stringing 10 -15 pass sequences together. We can now all have a break and look back on a memorable season. Well done to everyone involved from players and parents who have all contributed.
