Report

West reserves end the season with comprehensive win

West were on top form from the first minute as they put Barnoldswick under pressure deep inside their own half forcing the visitors to camp inside their own penalty area. West had chances to take the lead early as Gary Lilley brought down a throw in and crossed in for Joshua Chisambo’s shot to clip the top of the crossbar in the 2nd minute and Gary Lilley fired over after a Danny Summers cross moments later.  West had further chances in the opening 15 minutes including Bobby Ashcroft hitting the outside of the post with a header from a tight angle after lifting a cross over the goalkeeper.

Barnoldswick fought back into it and hit the top of the cross bar with a free kick on 18 minutes but it was West who took a deserved lead on 25 minutes after Lilley raced onto a long clearance and draw the keeper out before squaring to Chisambo to finish into an empty net. On 30 minutes it was 2-0 as Danny Summers dispatched a cool penalty low into the bottom left hand corner after Chisambo was fouled on the edge of the area by the full back.  The irresistible Chisambo tormented the Barnoldswick right back the entire afternoon.  West had further chances to extend their lead in the first half but for the intervention of the Barnoldswick goalkeeper.

The second half began more evenly as the excellent Zeeshan Hussein had a volley blocked at the far post and Conrad Betton superbly turned a free kick round the posts on 54 minutes moments after saving a long range effort.  Bobby Ashcroft almost made it 3 moments later after a terrific mazy run and shot but it was Thomas Hendley who finally did just after the hour mark firing in at the far post after some terrific build up play around the box and Betton was again forced to save from long range.

The forth arrived on 70 minutes as a Bobby Ashcroft cross evaded everyone and reached Kyle Hendley at the far post who coolly curled a shot into the top right hand corner.  The pressure didn’t let up and the lead could have been extended further but for several terrific saves by the Barnoldswick goalkeeper.  The final score didn’t flatter the home side whose performance belied their league position and signed off their season in style in front of the eyes of first team manager Andy Nelson.

Man of the match: Joshua Chisambo.
