GARIOCH ARE HIT FOR SIXi
West Garioch lost their long unbeaten home league record which stretches back to more than two seasons with a thumping defeat at the hands of a strong Culter side.
Garioch were down 2-0 at the break but capitulated in the second half with the visitors adding another four goals with no reply.
The home side could have been a goal up after only four minutes. A great run down the left by Callum McRitchie saw him leave three Culter players in his wake before unleashing a great attempt at goal which was pushed past the post by the Culter keeper. Gordon Forsyth came up for the corner and his header was cleared off the line.
Good work by Sean Bremner in 14 minutes saw him get a good cross in but there were no takers for Garioch.
Lewis Helme blocked brilliantly in a one-on-one situation in 16 minutes before a long ball through to a Culter forward two minutes later ended with him driving the ball over the top of the crossbar.
Culter took the lead in 24 minutes when they broke down the left and, despite appeals for offside from the home team, a great ball was delivered into the box and headed down for a player who gave Helme no chance from close range.
The visitors were two up just 10 minutes later when the home side gave the ball away deep in their half and a Culter forward waltzed past a defender before finishing with a chip shot into the net.
Half-time 0-2
Garioch coach replaced the luckless Lewis Greenhowe with Josh Boyle at the break and switched the formation of the team in an effort to get something from the game.
However the visitors set their stall out right from the re-start, hitting the woodwork with a header.
Culter cashed in on a mix-up in the Garioch rearguard just three minutes into the half to make it 3-0 and four minutes later the game was over as a contest when Helme could only parry a shot and a Culter player was on hand to knock the ball into the net.
After that killer blow the home side struggled to get out of their own half with Culter, their confidence now sky high, pressing forward at every opportunity and the home side always on the back foot.
Boyle had to go off injured and he was replaced by Tom McRobbie.
Culter added a fifth with 10 minutes remaining and completed the scoring five minutes later with the home side looking well beaten and longing for the final whistle to bring their miserable afternoon to an end.
McRitchie had a chance for a consolation right at the death when he took the ball past the keeper but his effort was just off target.
After the game shell-shocked Garioch coach Sandy Bremner said: "Today's game is one we want to forget. To have one or two off their game is bad but when the whole team have a bad game it definitely does not help!"
In a super gesture after the game referee Tom Fraser, of Sauchen, donated his match fee to the BBC Children In Need Appeal.
