Currently top of Division C of the Lune and District Junior Football League, Westgate Wanderers under 9 team received a Saturday morning of expert coaching at Liverpool Football Club’s Football Academy. Spotted by scouts on a visit to Morecambe the team showed so much promise that Liverpool FC wanted to take a closer look at them. Westgate Wanderers’ team manager Dan Allott said “We had no idea that the scouts had been watching us. We had a wonderful morning and each team member as well as the coaching staff learned a great deal and we are delighted that we will be asked back.” Karl Wakeman and Mark Goulding who assist with coaching added “The session was a huge encouragement to team members and to their enthusiasm to develop their game” Helen Bingley, Managing Director of team sponsors Bingley Consulting Ltd said “The invite from the Academy was the consequence of the commitment not only of the team members but also their families and supporters.
