An early start today. Westgate were drawn against Heysham, Bare Blue, Highgrove and Bare Yellow. This was Westgate-s first year in this tournament. First match Heysham, a slow start and unfortunately a goal against us. First game1-0. Next up was Bare Blue. Much better play, Joel scored a hat-trick and Joey made it 4-0. Third game Highgrove, again a great performance from Westgate, with Joel on the score sheet again and Ben scoring a wonderful 10 yard shot to make it 2-0. Bare Yellow was our last match in the group. A win or drawwould take us into the quarter finals. Great passing with a few shots on target from Joel, put us comfortably into the next stage.
We were drawn against Carnforth, twice in two days. We needed to win, to shake off Fridays defeat. Play up to half time was tight at both ends. Carnforth scored with only a few minutes to go, but through our skillfull play we managed to equalise, with a wonderful volley from Joel. Penalty shoot out. Izhaq volunteered to go in net and Lewis was first up. Full of confidence Lewis whacked it in 1-0 us. Carnforth next, Izhaq doing his Bruce Grobbelar impression saved a soft shot. Joey was next - perfect shot 2-0 . Carnforth scored next making it 2-1. Ben knew this shot was important, and he didn-t disappoint. Izhaq needed to save this one for a semi final against Lancaster Giants. They shot, he saved. Brilliant performance from Izhaq. Now a semi final. Westgate breezed through this match with a quick goal from Joey. Joel made it 2-0 and Ben scored a third to secure a final against Heysham, who we lost to in our opening match this morning. Westgate had control of the ball for most of the match with several shots, and one goal disallowed. Full time 0-0. Penalties again! Joel up first - superb shot 1-0. Heysham next - Izhaq back in net saved this one. Lewis stepped up to take a marvellous shot 2-0. Heysham scored one Ben then scored to make it 3-2. Heysham scored again, but Westgate were still hopeful. Finally Joey took the shot,scored and Westgate won the tournament. Absolutely brilliant lads. This certainly proved what a magnificant team we are. All our hard work this season has paid off. Thankyou to Ben, Dan, Joey, Lewis, James, Izhaq, Luke, Chris and Joel for a perfect day.
