A rusty performance was a sad way for Chinnock to end their two years in the PSDL Premier Division. The recent good form which had given Chinnock a chance of survival, was absent - mis-kicks, mis-control, mistakes and misunderstanding was everywhere - the team looked like one who hadn't played for weeks (which they hadn't! - 3 weeks since the excellent draw with South Petherton).
Combe took the lead midway through the first half after errors allowed pressure onthe Chinnock goal; 0-1 at half time.
A brief period of hope followed a 60th minute equaliser - Luke Williams somehow flicked a through ball off his heel, over the keeper and onto the crossbar, and Damon Hallett follwed up with a tap in from all of 12 inches - even the supporters felt that they could have finished that one off!
However, two Combe goals followed, leaving Chinnock to score three in the last 15 minutes to achieve the win that was necessary - not a likely scenario the way the game was going.
When Combe brought on their 56 year old sub, Chinnock manager Nick Eckland decided he had to match pace with pace and Neil Cochran entered the fray for the last 5 minutes. He even had time to squander a chance from a final corner - but it fell to his right (wrong!) foot.
