History of Westmill FC |
Westmill Football Club was founded during the early 1930’s and has always had its home within the picturesque village in Hertfordshire.
Only recently did our “hut” of a changing rooms dating back to the 1930’s sadly burn down. It survived a World War, but couldn't survive some idiot kid with a lighter!
Originally fielding a first team only and wearing red & black stripes, little is known about the teams early success but the character of the club has never faltered, being a balanced mixture of competitive spirit & good fun.
The player base has always been from the village and surrounding areas.
Post War success started as early as 1961 and the Trophy Cabinet will give evidence of the very strong sides of the 1970’s, 1980’s and early 1990’s. The highlight of which being the 1987 side winning every trophy available, including the Hertfordshire Junior Cup.
Introducing a reserve side further strengthened the club and they too have seen their fair share of success, the latest being the Division 2 double winning side of 2004.
Both teams currently play in the Hertford & District Football League.
Facilities (or lack of) has always been the obstacle to promotion into senior leagues, however, the construction of a new “pavilion” should bring new opportunities, should that be a direction we wish to take...if not...having a warm shower in January is still something to look forward to!
