Westway travelled to Woollams Playing Fields in St Albans for the semi finals of the county cup against a highly rated Wingate and Finchley side. The pitch and facilities were of a very high standard which suited the Westway style of play.

The game kicked off and both teams were playing at a very high tempo due to this the game was scrappy, played mostly in the middle third and possession was not kept for long periods of time.

Both teams looked dangerous on the counter attack and in the first ten minutes both teams had a few half chances.

Westway were the first to score Westway striker Myles Hippolyte latched on to a soft defensive header back to the Wingate keeper, Myles managed to lob the ball over the keeper and despite the efforts of a Wingate defender who tried to clear the ball on the line he could only help it on into the net. 1-0 Westway.

Around five minutes after the goal Myles had an opportunity to put Westway further ahead causing more problems to the Wingate defence he skilfully looped the ball over a defenders head then tried to lob the on rushing keeper but the ball went over the bar.

Wingate managed to get a goal back from a corner kick the ball was played high into the box, Wingate capitalised on some poor Westway defending and managed to scramble the ball into the net. 1-1.

Karmarl Duncan who was playing very confidently down the wing for Westway showed great skill to beat a player then pass the ball through to Myles who slotted the ball past the Wingate keeper. 2-1 Westway.

The second half kicked off and Wingate looked the more dangerous mounting attack after attack but the Westway defence led by centre back Hamza Ahmed stayed strong. Westway were not retaining possession as well as the first half but still looked dangerous on the counter.

Wingate had numerous chances hitting the bar with a wayward cross and also the inside of the post which fell kindly into the Westway keeper Gramos’s arms. In the last 10 mins, Gramos made a spectacular save from a shot heading into the top hand corner.

The Westway midfield were working the socks off getting up an down the pitch. In the last minute Wingate got a dubious free kick which led to a corner, Gramos showed great handling to come and catch the ball then threw the ball through to striker Conner Royes who was through on goal. The challenge that the defender made on Conner resembled the Eric Cantona Kung Fu kick on the crystal palace fan. He should have received a red card but got nothing from the ref who had had a terrible performance.

Westway Karim Assaui took the free kick from around 45 yards he hit the ball which you could see was heading over the keeper but the ref decided to blow the whistle before it went in which summed up his performance. But still the Westway were 2-1 winners. Well done lads great performance WEST LONDON MASSIVE blaaapblaap
