Whinney Banks put last weeks poor display at Nunthorpe behind them with a well earned 2-0 victory over local rivals Kader.
The first ten minutes were pretty even with both teams struggling to get a foot hold in the game. All that changed though when a throw in was turned on by Cairns and Eddie Airey produced a clever finish to put banks in the lead.
Cairns should have made it two when Hardy’s delightful corner fell to him but somehow Kader scrambled it away.
Whinney Banks started brightly in the second half with Shildrick stamping his authority in the game and the introduction of Conroy provided Banks with much needed width. It was from a wide area were the second goal came from. Cairns latched on to a through ball and steered the ball passed the onrushing goalkeeper. It could have been three when a fantastic moved saw Cairns head just wide from Aireys delightful cross.
Kader did have their moments but the defence of Roxby and Azam were outstanding and shackled their forwards well.
Well done to Heath in goal for keeping a clean sheet.
Manager’s thoughts – I was delighted with the way the boys responded after last weeks dire display at Nunthorpe. I still know we can play better football but today I wanted to see a real work ethic in the team and I think I got that. Keep it going boys.
