Whitby Wanderers 2 – 2 Manor FC

Whitby Wanderers entertained a young and energetic Manor FC in what was to be a heavily contested encounter that could have finished in either sides favour.

With player manager Jackson on the sidelines, a number of players missing and a certain Steven Mothersdale encountering car troubles and arriving late, Wanderers could only name a bare eleven with a number of changes from the previous Sunday.

The game began with the visitors the more lively side, creating a number of chances but failing to make any of them count thanks to some decent saves from David Fish in the hosts net.

From about the half an hour mark Wanderers began to settle into the game and managed to create some chances of their own, and the pressure told in the end as on the stroke of half time towering centre back James Hall managed to lose his marker at the back post from a corner and sweep the ball home to give the hosts a half time lead.

On the restart the visitors again started the more lively and managed to equalize on 50 minutes with a drive from the edge of the penalty area sneaking into the corner of the Wanderers net.

Then followed a scrappy but fiercely contested final third to the game with Wanderers again taking the lead on the hour mark through Simon Taylor whose low drive slipped beneath the visitors keeper, only to be cancelled out 5 minutes from time by the visitors winger who cut inside from the left and beat the Wanderers keeper at his near post, and that’s how the game ended with both teams sharing the spoils.

Wanderers next game is a visit to Cayton to take on the Cayton Corinthians on the 25th September, and will be hoping to bring all three points back home with them.
