Wanderers had a difficult time at Bodington Hall, Leeds for our first ever Worldnet competition.
With 63 other supporters teams in the hat, Wanderers found them, selves in a challenging Group 1. We were disappointed by a 3-0 defeat to local side Bradford, but the West Yorkshiremen went on to reach the final of the event.
Next up were southerners Welling, who crushed us 5-0, and went on to lift the Plate trophy, competed for by the clubs who finish 3rd and 4th in their group.
The third and final game of the afternoon saw last season's beaten cup finalists Watford A provide the opposition. The Hertfordshire outfit grabbed the lead late in the first half(games at WorldNet are two halves of 15 minutes). But the Blues came agonisingly close to hitting back with forwards Simon Taylor and Dan Wilson both coming close after great work from wily midfielder Chris Hutchinson.
However, the game ended 1-0 and Wanderers entered the Plate trophy where Crystal Palace provided the opposition at the inhuman hour of 8am the following day.
But if we found it tough to make the early kick-off, the London-based oppo turned up around ten minutes late but still managed to take an early lead. Indeed, it seemed to be Wanderers who were half asleep in the first period, but they woke back up after the break, but another early concession meant it was too steep a hill to climb.
