We came into this game off the back of a good 3 points against Kislingbury, whom I think will be there or there abouts at the end of the season. However, this would be a stern test for us against the table toppers and a wll organised team in Roade Reserves.

A full squad available with the exception of Powelly. Jacko back for a start and Ben have recovered from his cough (lol).

On a muddy cold afternoon we started slowly allowing Roade to boss the game. They used the full width of the pitch, and relied on their pacey centre forward who played alongside a rather more less pacey player who knew how to shield the ball. And pressure paid off when Roade took the lead after good play in Whitefields box, the ball placed beyond Callum for a 1-0 lead.

Not the start we had hoped for but within a couple of minutes, good work from Adam 'lazy boy' Russell led to Ben slinging in a storming cross whereby Brett rose majestically at the near post to bullet in an equaliser. 1-1.

For the remainder of the half, both teams had chances, to be honest our ones were the better as we pressed hard for the advantage. Brett had another chance but it was cleared off the line but at half time, we were confident of getting the 3 points.

Unfortunately our confidence was way off as within 30 seconds of the restart a ball from a quickly taken corner was floated over Baz and Dsve and volleyed home from an acute angle to put the hosts back in front.

Again, we were not to be deterred and after a good pass from Jez released Adam down the right, he calmly cut inside before unleashing a powerful shot into the roof of the net. 2-2. We deserved our equaliser, we had played well.

Unbeleiveably, we then took the lead. Adam and Brett somehow carved out an opportunity and with Roade stood motionless appealing for off side that never came (the only one that did mind you !), Brett slotted home to put Whitefield 3-2 up.

At this point, we needed to keep our heads, defend strongly and when possible use the pace of Brett, Adam and Ben. I was optimistic that we could keep ahead or in the worst case get a point from this now. I thought about bring Chris on, tighten up and play a back 5 but to be honest, the 3 lads on the bench were frozen and not really in the mood to play. Another, ball was floated into our box and another free header resulted in Roade's equaliser and the game was now on a knife edge.

Unfortunately a combination of tiredness, poor defending and the referee ignoring a head injury led to Roade scoring what would turn out to be the winner and that knocked the stuffing out of us. A fifth goal came and the game was over. We had lost 5-3. A game we should have or could have won BUT definately a game where we deserved a point.

I think we were all disappointed with the outcome. Dead on your feet, most of you at the end of the game and thats partly my fault for ignoring the subs. Defensively, we were all at sea. I dont just mean the back 5 either. When we put in a tackle and miss, get up and have another go.

Low point of the day - the result. We have played worse and won, they were a classy side but we matched them for 75 mins.

Highlight - Chris taking the P**S out of their 'large' centre forward only to then fall over the ball whist doing keepy ups on the sideline.

MOM - Again close this week but in my opinion I thought Brett deserves it for a dogged performance and 2 well taken goals in his dads boots and my shin pads - your privelaged !. I hope that does your confidence the world of good - we need you on the score sheet EVERY week.

James was a close second for constantly running at their right back and proving to be a menace whilst putting in some quality challenges.

Assigned ref :- G.T.Ryan
