Herstmonceux 3

We went into this game having only played once in the last four months. Everybody was up for it before the game but after only 5 minutes you could tell the reds looked a bit rusty.

We went out full strength knowing that Herstmonceux had fielded a few first team players and were hopefull of an upset. The pitch was in poor condition with the grass up to mid shin height in places and this restricted either side having a fluid passing game.

The Reds couldnt seem to really get into this game in the first half against a strong wind things just werent going our way. The passing was awful at times communication was poor and Lee Boniface had very little supply up front. It wasnt to long after heavy pressure that we went 1-0 down, a hopefull ball into the box wasnt defended and 'Ceux had a player at the far post waiting to head in to an empty net.

The Reds started to pick their game up after that Ben Merritt switched to left wing and Julian Waters went into the centre and it seemed to instantly turn things around. After good work by Jules, Ben was through on goal but a poor first touch meant he was stretching for the shot and it flew over the bar.

Not too long after that, Paul Cotteral and Lee played some nice football down the right flank. Paul got into the box and squared the ball to Ben who tapped in from close range, 1-1.

In the dying seconds of the half 'Ceux chased a ball given up on by the defenders and raced through one on one sliding it passed Leon to make it 2-1 to Herstmonceux at the break.

The Reds made changes at half time with Tom Haddon replacing Lee Boniface and Anthony swift replacing Rob Hook. This seemed to have and instant impact because with one of his first touches Ant Swift scored a header from Ben's long free kick to levell the score. The Red's had by far the greater possesion in the second half and made it pay with Paul Cotteral scoring a fine individual goal cutting the defence wide open and dinking the fiish over the keeper. 3-2 to the reds.

The game turned a little scrappy and complacency started to leak into White Knight. We were giving the ball away needlessly and had gone very quiet. With about 15 to go Herstmonceux were awarded a very contreversial penalty after a challenge by Jon Butler. They slotted it into the top left to level 3-3.

The last 15 was very poor, White Knight continuing to give the ball away and Herstmonceux happy to sit out for the draw.

Final Score 3 - 3
