City Central 3
WHITENAP FC 0

Whitenap's cup interests were ended for another season last Sunday morning when their injury hit team were comprehensivly beaten by a strong City Central side.

Playing at Fleming Park, Whitenap went into the game with a much changed line-up but despite this they made a good start and put their hosts under plenty of early pressure. The Romsey side created a series of good chances and should have taken the lead, especially when striker Richard Sherman just failed to connect with a pinpoint cross with the open goal at his mercy. City Central appeared to loose all composure and their discipline and after several cautions were handed out, they had a player sent-off for foul language. Whitenap were then awarded a penalty on 20 minutes but Matt Osman's spot kick struck the outside of the post. This proved to be costly and allowed the hosts to force their way back into the play. City Central began to look dangerous but Whitenap held out until two quick well taken goals put the hosts firmly in the driving seat.

The second half was a scrappy affair. Whitenap showed plenty of honest endevour but found their experienced but rather unsavoury, hosts hard to break down. Dan Hansford had a couple of efforts blocked but apart from this City Central comfortably held out. The hosts looked dangerous on the break and after forcing some good saves from Andrew Costello they put the result beyond doubt with a breakaway goal midway through the second half to secure their place in the next round - again at the expense of luckless Whitenap.
