Home Ground History

Established in 1908 Whitwell Athletic original ground was at Fossetts Meadow Whitwell they moved to a more central location near to new housing estate off Horn Hill Whitwell before the 2nd World War. During the war the ground was ploughed for agricultural use so the club played on The Hoo Estate then onto Bendish Common for 6 seasons. They moved back to the current ground in the late 50’s. The old Football Pavilion was built and opened on 6th October 1962 demolished in 2010. A spectator’s stand was constructed in the early 70’s and now one of the very few left in the UK. A New multi sport pavilion majority funded through Football Foundation / Sport England was opened in 2010.
