Wickersley's Cup boost
Tuesday, 31 May 2005.
The Wickersley Youth Summer Tournament recently received a special visit from the world’s most famous domestic trophy.
In the build-up to 21 May's FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Manchester United, The Football Association arranged a trip for the The FA Cup to Wickersley Youth FC in Rotherham.
Glenn Lavery from The FA Customer Relations Unit, travelled with the trophy and witnessed a highly enjoyable day, which saw Wickersley Youth U7's win their first tournament on home soil.
Speaking after the event Glenn said: "Clearly the magic of The FA Cup is as strong as ever; when it was unveiled the whole tournament came to a halt as kids and parents alike clamoured to get a closer look."
The tournament consisted of youth teams from the local area, all of which had the opportunity to have their photograph taken with The FA Cup.
The tournament was organised by Gary Kitching and Phil Stacey, and Gary - a member of England’s Official Supporter’s Club, England Fans - was delighted with the day’s proceedings.
"The day was a fantastic success," he said. "The kids were absolutely blown away when they saw The FA Cup being paraded around the ground. The reaction from the parents and children was unbelievable."
Millmoor Juniors won the Under-8 tournament and Sheffield Rangers triumphed in the Under-10 category.
The Football Association would like to congratulate Gary and Phil on their efforts at promoting and fostering the future of English football, and of course, on a wonderful tournament.

In what turned out to be the wettest weekend so far this year, we were lucky that our tournament still went ahead. Unfortunately another local side had to cancel their tournament due to a waterlogged pitch, however due to the excellent drainage at Wickersley School, the pitches were not affected by the rain.
97 teams took part in the tournament and for the first time in 5 years we held a girl’s under 10’s tournament, once again the tournament was a success with two Wickersley teams retaining the trophy they won the previous year. Most of the teams came from the South Yorkshire area, however Costello Tigers from Hull returned for their second year, and we saw Glapwell Colliery from Mansfield enter the Under 11’s tournament for the first time.
Special thanks go to St Leonards News and Booze and Smiths Dairies for being the Tournament sponsor. Thanks also to the individual age group sponsors who also contributed. Can I also thank all of the volunteers and managers who gave up their time, gave us the use of their vehicles and got up early to set the whole thing up and stayed late on Sunday to clear it all away, without your help the event would not have happened. Thanks also to Gary Kitching for donating some fantastic raffle prizes.

What a difference a year makes! Having endured torrential downpours at last years tournament, it was pleasing to see the sun shine over the weekend. Wickersley School & Sports Sports College once again provided excellent facilities, to which we are thankful.
89 teams took part in the tournament and for the first time we held a Girls U11 competition. Seven teams returned to defend their title’s, however only 2 were successful, Wisewood U9’s and Glapwell Colliery U12’s. Wickersley Youth’s only success was victory in the Girls Under 11’s final, however 3 other Wickersley Youth teams did reach their respective age group finals.
Thanks go to the teams that entered we hope to see you next year.

Wickersley Youth Tournament 2008
After a number of years of inclement weather we at long last managed to get two glorious days of sunshine over our Tournament weekend. Wickersley School and Sports College once again provided excellent facilities, to which we are thankful.
122 teams took part in the tournament and the girls competition became stronger as we increased the participation to 3 age groups. Quite a number of teams were first timers to our tournament and we saw South Cave girls from Humberside enter 2 teams. Wickersley Youths success was victory in the Girls Under 11s final and boys U12s. Thanks go to the teams that entered we hope to see you next year.
Special thanks go to the various age group sponsors. Can I also thank all of the volunteers and managers who gave up their time, gave us the use of their vehicles and got up early to set the whole thing up and stayed late on Sunday to clear it all away, without your help the event would not have happened.
