In 1996 Flo Mather was the secretary for Wigan Girls, in 1999 her daughter Michelle was too old to play for a junior section as where her team mates.
Unfortunatly at that time no local team was interested in having a reserve team, but were interested in taking individuai players after finishing runners up in the under 16s age group Flo was aked to keep the girls together by parents and players, so she started to ring leagues and was accepted into the Noth West Womens Regional Football League and Wigan Latics Ladies was formed. Flo tried for several years to have the name Wigan Athletic Ladies but to no avail but in 2005 Flo got a personal call from Brenda Spencer to say that Wigan Latics Ladies could now use the name Wigan Athletic Ladies, the team now wears the Wigan Athletic kit with pride knowing that they are the official Wigan Athletic Ladies club.
