The Early Years |
In 1987 a group of lads from Nottingham who were by now living and working in London decided to form a cricket team. They called themselves Wilf Kroucher Old Boys C.C. after the name of the heavy rock band formed by them at South Wolds School, Keyworth, Nottinghamshire in 1975.
In the summer of 1989 Tony Ryland took delivery of a brand spanking new white kit from Frank Johnson's sports shop in Brixton, sponsored by John Russel, a computer auctioneer, and Wilf Kroucher F.C. was born. We joined the West End League, Division 1 (there was no Division 2!)
After a couple of years we moved to the Wimbledon & Distict League, and after finishing runners-up of Division 2 in 1994 were promoted to Division 1.

Who Is Wilf Kroucher ? |
The precise idea for 'Wilf Kroucher' is shrouded in mystery but is believed to emanate from Nick 'Pigga' Pike, a schoolfriend of Nottingham lads.
We often get asked who Wilf Kroucher is, or where the name comes from. I'm still not sure myself, but when I ask some of the old boys, I get a few sniggers, and then a story about how some of the lads were on a trip to India, and when paying a visit to the very basic W.C. had to crouch down or squat to do the business. This coined the phrase "going for a Wilf Kroucher". I like to think of the story as fantasy, as we don't want our club associated with toilets and what not.
So we'll leave as we're not sure who Wilf Kroucher really was, but I'm sure he was a distinguished gentleman with a great appreciation of the beautiful game!
