Report

The Magpies welcomed Lytchett United to Colehill for the final match of the season at home.

Starting line up:

GK: Nat

CD: Chopper

CD: Antony

MFR: JT

MFC: Sam

MFL: Spudley ©

CF: Jamie

The Magpies started off brightly and soon began to dominate the game.  Jamie won a free kick deep inside the opposition’s half and took the kick himself. A great free kick that took a deflection on its way to the back of the net marked Jamie’s first goal for the Maggies.

More goals quickly followed. Chopper was replaced by Hugo to keep Lytchett pressed into their own half and it was an inspired substitution as Hugo found his old form, weaving his way through the blue defence.

A couple of knocks to Antony and Sam saw Miles and Chopper take to the pitch.

First half was totally dominated by the Magpies.

2nd Half:

GK: Nat

CD: Chopper

CD: Antony

MFR: Hugo ©

MFC: Sam

MFL: Miles

CF: JT

More goals & another dominant display from the Magpies. JT secured his hat-trick and was replaced by Jamie.

Miles scored a fantastic goal, that was carefully placed to the bottom right hand corner of the goal from outside the area from the left. The keeper got a hand to it, but couldn’t stop it from going into the net. A great goal!

Goal of the day has to go to Hugo though. A little flick into the penalty area from Sam and Hugo timed his run to perfection. Seeing the keeper rush forward off his line, he played a very clever and neat flicked chip over the sprawling stopper for a sublime finish.

Spud won a penalty and converted emphatically.

Lytchett scored a consolation goal on the break, but the day belonged to the Magpies who were 10-1 winners.

Scorers were:

JT: 3

Sam: 2

Hugo: 2

Spudley: 1

Miles: 1

Jamie: 1

Special mention really belongs to the whole team!

Nat: Steady and in total control of his area.

Antony: Marshalled the defence well and played with great confidence. If he gave the ball away, he always won it back. A great performance and started many attacks from the back line.

Chopper: A superb performance that saw him push way out of his comfort zone to challenge for everything in midfield as well as defence. Made some very precise passes with both feet to great effect.

Sam: Did exceptionally well in any position he played today, scoring two goals himself and creating chances for his team-mates. Very talented player, who needs to remember not to just hoof the ball forward as he is skilful enough to be more creative.

Miles: Continuing his rapid improvement on the pitch and scored a very good goal. Always in the thick of the action.

Spudley: Team Captain for the day. His passing is always improving and just needs to remember not to just hoof the ball forward. Got himself into some great positions on the pitch and won/converted a penalty.

Jamie: While he is still only finding his feet in the team, he played a big part in today’s win. One of the subs who were watching him asked ‘Are we keeping him?’ and when the reply was yes the response from the player was ‘Cool, he’s really good!’ – can’t get a better compliment than that!

JT: Hat-trick! Gets an extra special mention for his commitment. Challenged so much more than usual today, which made such a huge difference to the right hand side as he gave the defence some relief to pick up any other runners to deny Lytchett any attacking options. A much improved attitude to training and matches. Well done!

Hugo: Gets an extra special mention for a massive improvement. Great confidence and a calm skilful finish to cap an all-round fantastic performance. MOTM!

There are a couple of away matches before the Harvard Cup, but a great way to end the season at the home venue. Well done lads!
