Report

Final game of the season and the Old Boys knew a point guarentee 2nd place in Division 2.

Feering Utd Reserves had infultrated the Feering 1st team to get their side together for the game, thier first team took the Div 1 title this year so WOB know this would make the game harder.

WOB began strongly bossing the game and playing some lovely football with one touch pass and move.  The first half remained tight until the 35th minute when the FURFC goalkeeper miss-kicked his goal kick to Russell Kemp who pounced on the oppurtunity and calmly slotted past the keeper.  WOB then took the game by the scruff of its neck and quickly doubled their advantage in the 41st minute when Martin Laurence played Steve Cook in the channel who beat two defends and found the bottom corner with his left foot, his 22nd goal of the season.

In the next attack, some neat play by Alex O'Dell played in Russel Kemp, 20 yards out with his back to goal, he lficked the  ball up, turned and volleyed, the keeper waved it goodbye but the ball smashed of the crossbar.

Just 2 minutes later, Richard Hutchinson played in Alex O'Dell down the left flank who battled with the FURFC right back and and placed the ball accross the corridor of uncertainty where Kemp powered in to score his second of the game.

Just before the half, Russel Kemp's corner was cleared only to the edge of the box where Matt Barbour bought the ball down and thumped his shot into the top corner.

Half Time - FURFC 0 - 4 WOBFC

In the second half the Old Boys started the same and pushed onto FURFC and it only took 4 minutes for them to increase their lead.  A cros field ball from Andy White was chased by Steve Cook who superbly squeezed the ball accross the 18 yard line for Kemp who had plenty of time but smashed the shot first-time under the keeper for his hat-trick.

At 5 - 0 Ben Hyde ran the changes as Cook, Kemp and White were replaced by Dom Johnston, Leighton Galvin and Stefan Gregory.

The game became a bit dis-jointed as Feering had also made three changes but the Old Boys missed guilt edge chances from Toby Freeman and some close efforts from Johnston plus a daisy clipper that hit the corner flag from club captain Martin Laurence.

Feering did grab a consolation when a well played long ball was volleyed first time by the striker (name unknown) for a cracking goal, but a consolation at best.

A fantastic end to a fantastic season where the club finished in 2nd place, higher than ever.  A man of the match performance from Russell Kemp but a thoroughly good team performance.
