A history of football in Wolverton..... (31/07/06)
Wolverton's story starts in the late 1880's. The ground 'Wolverton Park' was built in 1885 and the club started in 1887 in the Southern League as Wolverton L & NWR FC. After the First World War Wolves joined the North Bucks League and finished runners up in 1920/1. In 1938/9 Wolves won the South Midlands League and after the war were runners up in the Spartan League. In the late 1940's & BR was added to the club name and in 1957 reached the fourth round of the FA cup losing to Peterborough. In 1961 Wolves joined the United Counties League and in 1969/70 finished runners up and reached the final of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup. In 1980's Wolves rejoined the Spartan League, then the Athenian League and then the Isthmain League finishing runner up in the Second Division in 1986/7. This proved to be the catalyst to the Wolves demise due to the costs involved and Wolves finally changed their name firstly to MK Wolverton Town and then AFC Wolverton and rejoined the South Midlands League. They eventually folded in January 1992. In 2004 Wolverton AFC was resurrected by Andy Gray and some life members but is yet to kick a ball. Also in 2004 Wolverton Town FC was started by Michael and Christine Greenwood in the MK Sunday League and in 2005 the Saturday team entered the North Bucks League. The team now plays at the Radcliffe School due to housing development at the Park and is hoping to have a new home at the Western Road Recreational Ground or Greenleys Rugby Ground when the Radcliffe School is developed as well.
Merger (28/07/08)
In July 2008, Wolverton Town merged with the highly successful North Bucks league champions PB(MK) to form PB Wolverton Town FC.
