WOODLEY WANDERERS YFC 30TH ANNUAL TOURNAMENT REPORT

Woodley Wanderers YFC 30th Annual Football Tournament took place this weekend at Abbey Rugby Club in Emmer Green. Despite the extreme weather conditions in the week leading up to the tournament it went ahead on the Saturday, however Sunday’s matches had to be cancelled. Around 150 teams took part in the six-a-side tournament in categories ranging from Under-9’s to Under-15’s. Each age range had a consolation competition for teams that just failed to progress into the knockout stages of the main cup.

The host club had much to celebrate this weekend with Woodley Wanderers Under-15’s winning their own tournament and taking home the Uniq Systems Shield. Woodley Wanderers Jets Under-12s and Woodley Wanderers Falcons Under-13s added to the clubs cup collection when they both won their Consolation competitions.

Youngest cup winners were Barton Rovers Under-9s. Burnham Juniors won the Under-10 age group. Under-11s was won by Burnham White. Woodley Town Kestrels won the Under-12s with Eldon Celtic coming top in the Under-13s.
Under-13s were also the only age group to have a girls competition, which was won by Reading Girls. Liden Community FC were the Under-14 winners and Woodley Wanderers own team won the Under-15s.

A club spokesperson said It’s been a lot of hard work and there are a lot of people we could not have done it without. We would like to thank our sponsors CHIPS, Woodley & Earley Lions, NICKon Events, Vanren Land Developers, Woodley Estate Agents and AYS Removals. Also to Uniq Systems, A1 Bathrooms, Staysure, Ace Awards and Siemens who all sponsored trophies for the tournament. Special thanks to Ken Williams and Simon Dow, Reading Abbey RFC and Beechwood School.

What is the best way to settle a cup tie that is level after normal time?
Extra time, then penalties
Straight to penalties
Golden goal extra time, then penalties
Golden goal all the way, removing one player from each team at regular intervals
Extra time, then shootout - players start on halfway and have 15 seconds to shoot
Might as well just toss a coin!
