Worden started there season of in good sted today with a good win in the cup against a good side in New Longton Rovers there first encounter in the sunday league.The home side started well, and were working well together with new boys making there first competetive game in the cup today. The away team came at Worden and could have took the lead early on. but again good solid defending was shown and dealt with the problems. New Longton Rovers broke through the defence on one occasion and Brobyn had no choice but to meet the striker and was deemed to have offended there man from which the referee gave a penalty . and in fairness was justified. But it was the Keeper from New Longton who stepped up to take the spot kick and very well taken to give the away team a 1.0 lead 8 minutes before the break . Worden to there credit fought back and made an immediate response within five minutes to level the score 1.1 when worden struck from a free kick which rebounded up and under the cross bar and Gareth Caunce who,s performance today was class and was given the man of the match was awarded the goal to even the score at the break H/T 1.1. Worden came out from the interval with a good balance and Paul Cottam made way for David Iampiatro, Paul was tested and ran very well and fresh legs was a good reason to make a change , also Paul Earnshaw came on for an injured Andy Dewhurst who himself had a good game but was carrying a knock. Worden put some good football together and a good through ball from Craig Speakman found new kid on the block ASA Bellomy who timed his run to perfection and calmly took it around the keeper to register his first goal for his club and his campaign. 2.1 Worden. Worden seemed to take the upper hand from then although the away team did get the ball in back of the net only for the player to judged offside, tight but the right decision. This was a great game to watch . Worden were again soon passing the ball through the defence again to find the ever running presence of Asa Bellomy to slot home his second and give Worden a 3.1 lead. chances fell at both ends and New Longton can be pleased with there first game in the LEP Sunday League. Worden saw there third change when Darren Meadwell came off and Ste Bellochy came into midfield and Phil Dewhurst came on and made a good impact on the right.. The game finished 3.1 to Worden ,and they will go into the next round. and will prepare themselves for the thursday night fixture against Coppull Utd in the first league game . at Worden Park.

Managers View . Worden worked well and good positives were shown from the lads today and the cool finishing touches from new boy Asa Bellomy makes competition for places more interesting along with all the other new players signed this season. giving Worden a good balance and good selection for the manager and team.
