Report

A game that changed its status more times than a teenagers facebook page. The game was on, off, definately off & then on again in a delayed kick off.

Surface water aside, the two teams lined up for the first time this season. Worden fresh from a victory the previous Sunday made only one change for the injured Chadderton at the back.

Despite the conditions, Worden started the brighter side, making good use of the wide players as the centre of the park, players battled around the mud.

After some swift passing amongst Cosgrove, A.Dewhurst and Proctor they started to make the back line of Gregson Lane uncomfortable. Early pressure unfortunately remained a stalemate.
As the game came into the 15 minute mark Robinson won the ball back in the midfield, which then fell to Nick Keyte who took one touch to control and the other was a defence splitting pass threaded in the mould of Paul Scholes to Andy Dewhursts advancing run. There was still alot to be done, but his speed and calmness ensured it was slotted home GOAL 1-0.

This then in turn saw Worden on the back foot, Phil Dewhurst was brought into more than one occasion defending brilliantly with last ditch challenges. Gregson Lane despite the possession didnt really threaten the final 3rd initially. A corner was won by Gregson and as Stott went for a defensive clearance, it unforunately knocked onto his own hand and the referee gave the decision PENALTY.

Their number 6 lined up, who looked uncomfortable from the outset and it resulted in a save from Norris. Justice done some may say.
Worden started to collect a bit of momentum back from this and began to dominate again. This was short lived and after another Gregson Lane attack, the ball swept across the edge of the box to a Gregson Lane player, who hit it so sweetly, it was the only angle that could of beaten a stretched Norris GOAL 1-1.
The game began to come more open, with chances falling to both sides. Each keeper player their part in keeping the scoreline down. However Gregson Lane produced a move down the right hand side, resulting in Cosgrove clipping the heels of his opponent in the box, a performance from the player was worthy of a Oscar nomination. However a PENALTY was given.

This was then slotted home GOAL 1-2. H/T

The 2nd half didnt start well for Worden and almost immediately from the kick off, the ball found itself to a Gregson player, with gaps appearing, a snap shot saw it hit the back of the next from 20 yards. GOAL 1-3.
Worden began a fight back, tireless running from Horne and Robinson began to create opportunities for the forwards with both Dewhurst and Proctor posing a threat. However despite the refereeing decisions just not going Wordens way it was going to be put down as " just one of those days ". Substitutions were made with Battersby coming on for Cosgrove and Carlton replacing P Dewhurst.

A further goal from Gregson Lane effectively ended the game GOAL 1-4. Despite decisions continuing to go against Worden they still didnt help themselves with odd moments of lapses of concentration.

The result didnt reflect the overall performance and it will surely be a different contest on a pitch that can be fit for a football match next time around.
