Desperately unlucky today.
We had a bare 11 (with me as the onyl & unused sub), and as per the norm of late, we were missing a couple of key players in Dave Parry & deadeyedixie, along with another 5 of whom, for various reasons, were either unable to play, or just didn-t bother getting in touch with me, this week.
Importantly though, life goes on, and we-ve proved again today, that we have a SQUAD capable of competing in ths league.
We started with at least 3 players in unfamiliar positions. The performance showed though, that we DO have lads who are prepared to run through walls for the team.
The lads were dead on their feet at the end of the game, but thats because as in recent weeks, they put 100% effort in, right until the death.
We started well, and were possibly the better side in the first half, which showed with a 1-0 lead at the interval. The goal came from our regular superstar in Luke Walker, who somehow managed to hook a volley, from over his shoulder, from at least 25 yds out, which was -in- from the second it left his foot!!
We also knew, that they would come out fighting in the second half, but we managed to keep them at bay, for the majority of the time.
The equaliser, came from a goal as good as the one we-d scored. Their midfielder, beat a couple of tackles, and drilled one into the top corner, from about 30yds. Even a full length dive from Steve (who i-ve got to say, was in fine form) in goal, couldnt stop that rocket!!
from here on in, our tired legs started to go a little. (unsurprising, when we had -Seb- playing his first full 90 mins...... Doughty, who hasn-t even played for a couple of months, and Arron, playing his first full game in an outfield position)
The winner for Rhyl, came with about 15mins left.
Surprisingly, this seemed to liven us up a little. We had a few more, decent openings late on, and on another day, one of those chances would have gone in. sadly not today though.
As so many times of late, we-ve lost, but i cant possibly be disapointed with the lads.
They gave me 100% effort, 100% commitment, and most importantly, they did exactly what I asked, on every single occasion, even if they didnt believe I was asking the right things, they still did it. (which is what I like)
I-d be lying if I said, we didn-t miss deadeyedixie & Dave parry, but the rest of the missing players, were replaced with ease, which again, shows me, that we have a squad, made up of closely matched quality.
Most pleasing aspect for me today, was Seb Huber.
He came in at Right Back, (which I must admit, was a gamble on my part) but to be fair to Seb, that was by far his best performaance, for WSFC, and every bit as good, as any other -RB- we-ve used this season so far.
We have a break now, until mid january, which will give the players a deserved rest, and gives me a chance to bring in some replacements, for certain players (if I can get them players in, that is?).
Managers Ratings.....
Steve Lloyd - 8 (Handling was as goodas ever today, and made a few crucial saves)
Andy Jones - 8 (A Captains performance which was rewarded, with MoM from Rhyl)
Tony Perkins - 7 ( another solid showing from the -old- man... would have been an 8 but for a booking)
Seb Huber - 8 (Best showing for us, by far... he actaully gets MY MoM vote - sorry alf)
Sam Taylor - 7 (Sam is growing in confidence game by game..... well done mate)
Luke Walker - 8 (Another superb strike, from a player only 80% fit, and playing through some pain)
Simon Mason - 7 (another decent showing from a player, who is by far..... his OWN worst critic!)
Curly -7 (asked to play out of position, and did it extremely well)
Craig Lovell - 7 (Another gutsy performance, form Craig)
Aaron Scott - 8 (Got through a great deal of work, and took a nasty knock to the mouth for his reward)
Craig Doughty 7 (First game back for a while. Good to see him get through a good 90mins)
Official MoM - Andy Jones (C) ....... pushed all the way, by Seb though
