Youngsters shine for Writtle 2nds

Although only coming 7th out of the 11 teams in the LFC Insurance Goup Reserve Division Two, there were some real positives to hopefully take forward into the coming season.

The Reserves were built around a nucleus of 16-18 year olds either from the Writtle area or part of the Chelmsford City U16s that played their games at Writtle on a Sunday.

Sometimes, the lack of experience showed but when the football clicked, it was probably some of the best played in the division (e.g. Westhamians away won 4-1, Newham United away won 5-1). In the Cups, the Reserves went out at the first hurdle to Epping in the League Cup and Barnston in the County Cup.

Having said that, the Reserves were only 1 point behind Barnston in 4th place (who were promoted). A bit more consistency in the season ahead, and it could be a good one for the Reserves under the new management of Phil Cross.
