Writtle Veterans just missed out on what could have been a really successful season finishig runners up in the Greene King Essex Veterans League Premier Division to Runwell Old Boys and losing out in the semi-final of the County Cup to Vichouse Sports.
However, the season was completely overshadowed by the death of Dave Thrift who was a fundamental part of the Veterans set-up. It is all credit to the players that some of their best performances came after Dave's death. Indeed, Writtle actually scored the only goal in a closely fought game with Ford Basildon just as the first team were holding their minute's silence in Dave's memory on the next pitch - I am sure he would have laughed at this!
To round off the season, the Veterans lifted the Tiptree Charity Cup for the fifth year on the trot.
