Wolverhampton Primary Schools' town team was formed in 1964 and within 2 years was playing a full programme of matches. The first ever match was in March 1964 between Darlaston and Wolverhampton with the latter winning 2-0 on Garrington’s Sport’s Ground. When competitions began in the early 1970’s the team quickly established a reputation for strength and soon brought trophies to the town. In the years since the competitions began Wolverhampton have won the Staffordshire shield on 15 occasions-9 outright. The West Midlands Shield has returned to the town 10 times (twice joint) and the Burton Shield has been held 7 times (once joint). The Town team also won the 7-a-side West Midlands title in 1997, 2000, 2001 and 2003 and the Tom Yeoman Shield in 2002 (joint) and 2004. For 15 years Wolverhampton went on tour to play London Associations and established itself in the fixture calendar of the Metropolis. Wolverhampton twice defeated the combined London team. In more recent years they have toured Wales and the East Midlands.
