Report

The performance in this game against Coventry was much improved on last weeks performance against Leicester.

We were better prepared this week and we all knew each other better.

We set out to contain and restrict a strong Coventry side from scoring and so we set up with a back 5 in front of Nile Graham in goal.

Callum Terry was given the task of organising and sweeping behind the two centre backs Ben Burton and Cavan Walters. This worked fine to an extent but it left Rowan Davies trying to play on his own up front against their back four. So whenever we got the ball forward we did not really have the players in advanced positions to make the ball stay there and Coventry played much of their football in our half.

There were some spells when we passed the ball very well and kept possession well, and this is very important against strong sides, because if you give them the ball they can create problems. But, again because five of our players were in defensive positions we passed the ball too often across the back because Rowan Davies was marked by their defenders.

We held out until midway through the half but went into the break 0-3.

Marcus Johnson, Will Dowling and Aaden Snaith decided that we needed to get more players forward and changed the formation to 4-4-2 and this worked much better as we were now able to play in their half a bit more often.

We forced a few corners and Jordan Jones went close to scoring following a fine run into their box.

Stefan Walker was put into the centre of midfield and he made a real difference with his presence. He showed good strength and worked hard and improved the side.

A good effort from all of the players suggests that we are moving in the right direction.

We will be inviting more players into a training / trial game situation next week in the hope of strengthening the squad, in preparation for our National cup game v Coventry in three weeks time.
