"Having had to finish my playing career at the relatively young age of 25 I started to take an interest in the various aspects of helping to run amateur football teams by coaching, carrying out first aid and the uninteresting work of the club secretary before finally managing a team. This has continued up until the present time.
My association with Wolverhampton Schools football started 15 years ago when my eldest son, Richard, was chosen to join the then Wolverhampton Under12 Town side. I then continued with my second son, Steven, coming through the ranks along side John Mason’s son, Stuart. When my sons' involvement with school football was over I still continued to help run teams with various teachers up until about 5 years ago when John and myself teamed up again. During this partnership we have never failed to win at least one trophy per year with last season 2006/2007 seeing us win all three competitions. The West Midlands League, the Staffordshire League, and the ESFA Regional Competition at Walsall's Bescot Stadium".
Tony has been a great supporter of schools football and he has been one of the mainstays of Wolverhampton Schools FA for the past 10/15 years. Where no teachers have been forthcoming, Tony has stepped in and provided footballing opportunities for many boys. He has worked with many players who have gone on to achieve great success in the game - players like Karl Henry(Wolves) and Keith Lowe (Port Vale)and Ben Rix (Crewe) have all played for teams run by Tony.
He has been a key member of staff on Wolverhampton Schools football tours to Eurofoot in France, and to the USA.
Hopefully his association with Wolverhampton Schools football will continue for many more years.
In junior football, should all players be given the same amount of time on the pitch during a game, regardless of ability?
Yes, always. Getting kids involved is the most important thing.
Yes, unless it is an important game.
No. Winning is important at all ages, so the best players should play more often.
