TEAM HISTORY
A SHORT HISTORY (13/02/07)

Wyre Juniors was started in 1976, it was a successful school side at Fleetwood's Cardinal Allen, that was in part at least responsible for the birth of the club. Frank Whelan, a local business man took the school side virtually intact to play in the Blackpool Youth League. The team, playing under the name of Thornton Sacred Heart had three seasons together, staying near the top of the league and playing in the Hogan cup Final at Blackpool's Bloomfield Road.
At this time the team needed to find other teams, which was successful and two teams, playing at U12 and U16, with a new name of Churchills JFC continued the following season. Expansion took place over the following few seasons and by 1981 the club fielded six teams from U9s upto U14s.Also in this year, with a lucrative sponsorship deal in place from Centaur Liesure Group, the teams became Centaur JFC and started wearing there now traditional Black and White striped shirts.
With the help of the start of the Saturday Morning FC the club now looked to bring players through from a younger age. With the help of basic coaching at this level it helped the teams as they stepped up to competitive matches ta U9s. Centaur sponsored the club till 1984, when the decision was made for a final name change to Wyre Juniors FC, this gave us a more geographical identity and helped attract players from all over the borough.
The benefits of the Saturday Morning F.C. began to show in the nineties when Wyre teams started to win silverware. Bernard Marlands under 9s won the league followed by Ian Martins teams winning Leagues and Cups and Ray Eades and Alan Addelstones teams successful also. Paul Whelans under 16s team reached successive Cup finals and Morecambe F.C.'s Christie Park stadium. Season 2002/3 saw several of the younger teams picking up silverware as the benefits of SMFC shone through.
Local competition with the formation of other teams and clubs in close proximity to Wyre JFC has now provided a fresh challenge but one that the club relishes. Wyre Juniors is now a established and well run organisation providing football for all, and long may that continue.
