Report

Having been promoted to Division 2 since last season, Yeading kicked off the campaign with a tricky away game at local rivals Kingshill Town.
They got off to the perfect start, taking the lead within five minutes when Ruffell guided a low cross in at the front post. However, the Abs seemed to sit back on the lead and invited a period of pressure.
Lokiec, making his league debut in goal, almost gifted Kingshill an equaliser when he came for the ball and missed it midway through the half, but atoned for his error moments later with a fine save from a direct free-kick.
Yeading went in at half time with a slender one goal adventage but in fairness it was a very even match. Kingshill came out of the blocks quick in the second period and drew level within ten minutes. A curling set peice from the edge of the box headed home emphatically. The goal shook the Abs into action but it soon went from bad to worse when Ruffell was dismissed after two bookings in quick succession for un-gentleman-ly conduct, leaving the Ding with ten men and half an hour to go. Hartnett(R) came off the bench for Hartnett(J) and Keating was pushed upfront to try and alleviate some pressure with his pace, but he was often left isolated.
Inevitably, Yeading gradually sat deeper with limited options, until the last ten minutes saw the proverbial team bus parked infront of the goal for the 1-1 draw. There were a few close calls towards the end and they perhaps rode there luck on a few occassions with some dubious penalty box volleyball, but they came away with a well deserved point after a solid defensive display and plenty of effort all over the pitch.
It wasnt pretty but it was a decent result and I'm sure there'll be more to come from the Abs in the coming weeks.
First Man of the match for the season is awarded to Matty Taylor for his role in a spirited effort from the defence, and Donkey of the day goes to Liam Ruffell, because he "Don't f*cking care!" Next week, Old Greenfordonians away!
