The Main hosted Ollerton Town in the floodlight cup Northern Semi Final on a cold Wednesday night after the pitch had passed an afternoon pitch inspection.
From the begining this tie was harshly battled out with both teams trying to gain the upper hand. The Main were edging the battle with Bird, Dart and Osbourne causing the Ollerton defence some trouble. Ollerton were threatening themselves but found opportunities few and far. On 25 minutes Dart raced clear and rounded the on rushing keeper but he was forced wide and could not find the finish the move deserved. Two minutes later and Turner released Bird, in similar fashion as Dart he rounded the keeper but made no mistake as he finished with aplomb.
The second half saw Ollerton try to gain the upper hand and on 65 minutes they got this courtesy of Osbournes red card. This reduced the Main to 10 men. However on 67 minutes Evans raced clear and blazed over with the goal at his mercy. Ollerton then laid seige to the Mains defence but they held strong until the 87th minute. A cross into the box saw Tunney jump to head the ball but looked to have been pushed out of the way. The ball fell kindly to the Ollerton 8 who shot home a late equaliser. The Main were furious but the goal stood. Extra time was to follow.
The game entered extra time with both teams looking very drained. On 97 minutes a cross into hte box made its way to the back post were the 17 had two attempts before firing home. The Main then saw Bird's free kick whistle past the wrong side of the post and on 115 minutes the tie was over. The number 9 picking his spot from the edge of the area.
